• The Cosmos (1970-1985) were an American professional soccer team that played out of New York City and the surrounding suburbs
• Founded in 1970, the team competed in the NASL and were the strongest team in the league both competitively and financially
• They had financial backing from Warner Communications president Steve Ross, which allowed them to sign international superstars such as Brazilian Pele and German Franz Beckenbauer
