• Gold medals won by Rudiger Helm (Men’s K-1 1000 Metres), Bernd Olbricht, Harald Marg, Bernd Duvigneau, and again Helm (Men’s K-4 1000 Metres) of East Germany, Vladimir Parfenovich and Sergei Chukray (Men’s K-2 1000 Metres) of the Soviet Union, Ivan Patzaichin and Toma Siminov (Men’s C-2 1000 Metres) of Romania, and Lyubomir Lyubenov (Men’s C-1 1000 Metres) of Bulgaria
