These lithographs are from an important flora of Java by Karl (Carl) Ludwig Blume. Karl LudwigBlume was a German-born Dutch botanist, whom traveled and studied the botanicals of the DutchEast Indies, particularly Java. From 1823 to 1826 Blume was Deputy Director of Agriculture at thebotanic garden in Bogor (Buitenzorg) in Java.He later returned to the Netherlands where he becamethe the Director of the Rijksherbarium (state herbarium) at Leiden.
