- First Slovak-born player to win the Stanley Cup
- Named one of the 100 greatest players in league history by the NHL in 2017
- Blackhawks upset Red Wings in first round but lose Stanley Cup Finals in seven games to Montreal Canadiens
- Topps hockey cards at the time were made in conjunction with O-Pee-Chee
- Stan Mikita was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983, and died in 2018 at the age of 78
