Description
- 1879 Vanity Fair print of Lord Stanley of Preston
- Includes article about Lord Stanley
- Born Frederick Stanley, Lord Stanley served as the sixth Canadian Governor General from 1888 to 1893
- Most famous for purchasing and becoming the namesake of perhaps the greatest trophy in sports, hockey’s Stanley Cup
- Originally donated by Stanley as a challenge trophy for the best Canadian amateur hockey champion in 1892, because his sons had become avid hockey fans, the Stanley Cup is now the NHL’s Championship trophy, and the greatest possible award in the sport
- Lord Stanley died in 1908 at 67 years old
- Print is in great condition; light crease in top left corner and a small tear on right edge but considering its age it has been remarkably preserved. Corresponding page (301 and 302) was removed carefully with minimal ripping on the left side but some small paper loss near the bottom right corner and some light marking along the top edge
